The Topeka Police Department (TPD) announced in a press release on Aug. 8 that it recently concluded an initial 60-day Police and Community Together (P.A.C.T.) violent crime reduction push. The P.A.C.T. included 10 officers across all bureaus and specialties of the TPD in a big effort to reduce violent crime and increase trust through community collaboration tactics.
“People saw firsthand that when they spoke, we listened and we acted,” said TPD LT Andrew Beightel. “That feedback created a level of trust that TPD intends to maintain moving forward.”
Police launched the initiative on May 26, 2025, focusing on high-crime parts of the city and repeat offenders. The TPD wrapped up operations on July 26, 2025 with the following results:
The TPD said the P.A.C.T. efforts have led to a 10% reduction in violent crime compared to the same time period in 2024. Police will continue to work with members of the community, local leaders and stakeholders to pursue an overall reduction in violent crime in the Capital City moving forward.
