Teen accused of attempted homicide at family gathering in Fresno, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A family gathering nearly turned deadly after an argumentative teen returned with a rifle, the Fresno Police Department said.

The argument broke out at a Fresno home in the area of Blackstone and Dakota avenues around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday. The 17-year-old involved left, only to return two hours later, armed with a rifle.

Another argument ensued; this time, however, it escalated further. Police said the teen discharged one round from close proximity, striking the man he was arguing with in the chest.

The man was located by officers in a nearby alleyway and was transported to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Detectives tracked the teen back to the house where he eventually surrendered. Police say he was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for attempted homicide.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective Richard Gallegos at 559-547-7506, 559-621-2446 or Richard.Gallegos@fresno.gov.
