Silver Alert issued for missing Burke County man with dementia or Alzheimer’s

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has issued a Silver Alert for a 70-year-old man who is believed to be suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s.

According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Gerald Arnold West was last seen at 7841 Old NC 10 in Hickory, where he was spotted driving onto Interstate 40 East at Exit 116.

Deputies said West may be in a black 1989 Dodge Ram 1500 with silver and black 20-inch rims. The truck has a West Virginia license plate: N14173A.

West is described as a white male, 5’11” tall, weighing about 300 pounds. He has short gray hair, brown eyes, and surgical scars on his chest and lower back. He was last seen wearing a tan and camouflage trucker-style hat, an army green T-shirt with an American flag, and gray cargo pants.

Anyone who sees West or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Deputy Kaitlyn Holland with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office at 828-437-1911.
