Authorities found the young girl had been buried in the backyard of the family’s home in Rose Hill in September 2024, and her death triggered an extensive investigation by law enforcement.
Schroer, originally charged with first-degree murder, pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of second-degree murder. In addition to the amended murder charge, she also entered no contest pleas to child abuse, making false information, and theft of more than $15,000 but less than $25,000.
The prosecution then presented facts of the case, and the judge found her guilty.
“I do find you guilty of count one murder in the second degree, a level one person felony,” Judge Jan Satterfield.
Sentencing in the case is scheduled for Nov. 10. As part of the plea agreement, she is expected to face no more than 215 months in prison. It is just under 18 years.
Kennedy’s adoptive father, Joseph Schroer, also faces criminal charges. He is charged with aggravated endangering a child. His next court appearance is currently scheduled for September.
