According to a news release, the Nelson family, which has run Elmer for three generations, will keep partial ownership and continue leading the company. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The new partnership aims to help Elmer sell more chocolates year-round while keeping its classic recipes the same.
Elmer has been making candy since 1855 and operates a large, modern factory in Ponchatoula. A 2016 expansion brought the plant’s size to more than 400,000 square feet, making it one of the most advanced in the industry.
Hoffmann Family of Companies has over 120 brands around the world. They work in several areas, including manufacturing, hospitality, agriculture, and real estate.
