Officials confirmed that Legier handed in his resignation on Aug. 5.
Legier plans to leave public service to pursue other interests.
“My service at ATC has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Legier wrote. “I am eternally grateful for the trust you placed in my ability to lead this wonderful little agency. The people at the ATC are among the best and most dedicated public servants in state government. People are truly amazed when I share that ATC regulates alcohol, tobacco, vape, and CBD statewide with only 67 positions. I assure you; no other state has accomplished that feat.”
Legier is a recognized leader in alternative dispute resolution, executive management, federal funding application, grants management, and construction management. He also served as Executive Director of the Orleans Parish Hospital Service District, where he recruited and hired all staff members, instituted all required policies, and oversaw the construction of a $100 million hospital project.
Legier shared the following statement with Louisiana First News.
“I have resigned my appointment as Commissioner, Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control effective August 11th. I have decided ultimately to pursue opportunities outside of state government, but will assist a transition as Deputy Commissioner. I am very proud of all the ATC has accomplished under my leadership. I would like to thank the Governor for this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to the next chapter in my professional life.”
