Late-night shooting in Freeport under investigation

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Freeport Police are investigating a late-night shooting on S. Benton Avenue that happened Thursday night.

Investigators said officers were alerted to the shooting by the city’s gunshot detection system.

Authorities did not locate any perpetrators at the scene, in the 600 block of S. Benton Avenue, when they arrived at approximately 11:58 a.m.

However, they did find evidence that a gun had been fired, and collected evidence from a vehicle that had bullet damage.

The shooting is still under investigation.
