Five weeks late, Pennsylvania House to meet for weekend budget session

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The State House will be in session over the weekend.

State representatives were called in for non-voting session days set for Friday and Saturday, and voting days scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

It’s expected that the House will at least pass a transportation funding bill, earmarking $300 million for mass transit, notably SEPTA in the Philadelphia area. The transit authority says it will slash services and hike fares without additional funding by August 14.

The bill would also add $500 million for road and bridge repairs, which Republican lawmakers were demanding.

The Senate is on call, but hasn’t said if it’ll come in next week to pass the transportation bill or work on the larger budget, now five weeks late.
