Victor Arley Agudelo Monsalve, now 29, accepted a plea deal in Mecklenburg County court on Thursday, pleading guilty to second-degree murder. He was originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of Yamile Alejandra Giraldo Gomez, but agreed to the lesser charge.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the deadly stabbing happened on December 23, 2023, at a home on Hermsley Road in the Steele Creek area. CMPD officers responded to a domestic violence call and found Gomez with severe stab wounds.
Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Agudelo Monsalve was arrested nearby after the attack. Following an investigation, he was taken into custody and charged with murder.
As part of the plea deal, Agudelo Monsalve was sentenced to between 20 to 25 years in prison. He will serve his sentence in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. He received credit for 593 days already spent in jail while awaiting trial, court records state.
The court also ordered him to pay over $5,800 in restitution and court fees.
