Celebrated KRON4 Anchor Pam Moore announces scholarship at NABJ HOF induction

(KRON) — Former KRON4 News Anchor and Special Contributor Pam Moore was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame on Friday. During the induction ceremony in Cleveland, Moore, who sat in the anchor chair at KRON for over three decades, also announced she would be launching a scholarship.

“I feel so much appreciation because this was not an honor that I sought,” said Moore at Friday’s induction ceremony, “nor was it ever something that I imagined for myself because there are so many people in NABJ who are deserving of this recognition.”

“The values and principles that shaped NABJ helped to shape me as a journalist,” added Moore, who is a former president of the organization. “Particularly, my views about our commitment to our communities and to each other, in newsrooms all across this country.”

‘$50,000 for 50 years of NABJ’

At the conclusion of her acceptance speech, Moore surprised the crowd by announcing that she would be launching a scholarship.

“I appreciate this organization, my heart is warm today and now I would like to give back some of what has been given to me for the young people who will lead NABJ into the future,” Moore told those in attendance. “They, I hope, will have the same excitement, commitment and dedication that I have grown to have when I started as a young journalist. So, I’d like to make a scholarship donation.”

“Recognizing 50 years of NABJ, five college scholarships, two for my hometown Detroit area, three for my current home in the Bay Area, to be distributed next year,” she continued, “$10,000 each, $50,000 for 50 years of the National Association of Black Journalists.”

A look back at Pam Moore’s celebrated career

Moore first joined KRON4 in March of 1991 as an anchor and general assignment reporter. An Emmy nominee for the special, “Selma to Ferguson,” she is an inductee into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Silver Circle.

Prior to joining KRON4, Moore worked at WBZ-TV in Boston as an anchor and general assignment reporter. Prior to that she was a general assignment reporter at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.

Moore won a number of awards for KRON4’s five-part series, “About Race,” which garnered her a George Foster Peabody Award, the Pew Center Batten Prize for Civic Journalism, an In-Depth Reporting Award from the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and top honors from the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame and Best Documentary from the California Associated Press Television Radio Association.

Moore retired from the KRON4 anchor desk in 2023. She remains a KRON4 News Special Contributor.
