The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on August 6.
According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, they received a 911 and a radio transmission from Byram police regarding the injured woman. They said she fell onto an exposed sandbar of the Pearl River below the bridge.
Byram police and Rankin County deputies responded and found the woman with what appeared to be two broken legs. She was stabilized, removed from the sandbar and transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for treatment.
The cause of the fall is under investigation, and the bridge has been taped off until further notice.
