The tenants at Blossom Apartments on Woodbine Street said they’re having to rely on potable and bottled water to survive.
“We’re just asking for help. Make it, you know, at least so we can get some answers. Because clearly we’re being thrown to the woods,” said Shanquana Hayes, who lives at the apartment complex.
The issues are the result of an ongoing dispute between Blossom Apartments owner Tony Little and JXN Water over failed payments. Residents said they’re left to suffer and are now living in deplorable conditions. They’re asking JXN Water and the City of Jackson to step-in until they’re able to relocate.
“I just want the water turned back on, so people can bathe until we get up out of here, until we can relocate. We’re asking that the water commissioner, the mayor or somebody would help get this water turned back on until we leave,” said Stacey Patrick, who lives at Blossom Apartments.
Living in a unit with her children, Camila Booker said it’s ridiculous and shameful how Little and management refuse to answer or provide any information to tenants.
“This is my question. How do you want your tenants to do right when you can’t do right? You can’t expect your tenants to do something that you’re not doing. Now, I’m really getting upset because this is really making me mad, because you want us to do right, but you’re not doing right,” Booker said.
In response to the ongoing concerns about some landlords failing to maintain basic utilities and standards in apartment complexes, Jackson Mayor John Horhn announced a new Housing Task Force that will hold landlords accountable for neglect.
