U.S. Marshals continue search for Cleveland County murder suspect, $2,500 reward offered

(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The U.S. Marshals Service is asking for the public’s help in locating Jonathan Martzes Petty, who is wanted for murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to investigators, Petty is accused of shooting and killing a Cleveland County resident on March 29, 2024. Authorities said he has a lengthy criminal history and should be considered armed and dangerous. Petty has been on the run now for more than a year.

He’s described as a 42-year-old man, standing 6’0″ tall, weighing around 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to his arrest. If you know anything about where Petty might be, you’re asked to call TFO Terry or call the U.S. Marshals at 1-877-926-8332. All tips will be kept confidential.
