Thousands of volunteers with Twin Cities United Way are packing backpacks full of school supplies to help local students get ready for the school year.
60,000 backpacks will be stuffed with school supplies before nonprofits and schools pick them up and hand them out to families.
This comes as national data shows more families starting back-to-school shopping earlier this year, concerned about higher prices with tariffs and inflation.
Thursday marks Twin Cities United Way’s 10th year of supporting hundreds of thousands of students across the Twin Cities area.
“This takes a huge burden off of young people,” said Shannon Smith Jones, the senior vice president of community impact. “It allows all people to walk through the doors with the same equipment, where there’s no judgment and you feel like you’re at a fresh start, well prepared for the school year.”
