The airline confirmed to KTLA that flights across the country were being held at their departure airports due to the undisclosed tech issue.
Dozens of mainline United flights across the country were affected, with some planes left stuck on the tarmac awaiting the OK to take off, according to posts on social media.
According to the flight tracking website FlightRadar 24, by around 6:15 p.m. the technological error was resolved and pilots and crews were given the all-clear to resume their trips.
While the issue was resolved, United officials stated that the airline expected the issues would likely have widespread ramifications for on-time departures and arrivals throughout the night.
“Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations,” a company official said.
The technological issue appears to be exclusive to United Airlines flights operated by the airline and not its regional partners.
Travelers should check the latest status of their flights online.
