St. Cloud Area School District prepares to review its elementary school boundaries

For the first time in over two decades, the St. Cloud Area School District is considering a boundary change for its elementary school.

According to the school district, the boundary change is being considered due to uneven enrollment and a preschool expansion and growth, which has left some schools overcrowded and others underused.

The school district will have a design team of around 10-12 district, building, and union leaders to analyze enrollment projections, city growth, program access and other factors to create possible solutions.

Once those proposals are drafted, a larger input team of about 40-50 people made up of staff, families, community members and administrators will then refine the options.

The goal of the proposals is to create attendance zones that maximize access to schools and programs, which makes the best use of district facilities.

A final recommendation will go to the board of education for a vote in December.
