Shenandoah community comes together for National Night Out

SHENANDOAH – An annual event brought the Shenandoah community together with those who serve and protect the heart of the anthracite.

It’s put together by a coalition of Shenandoah’s first responders, including the Shenandoah Community Ambulance, Shenandoah Fire Department, and Shenandoah Police Department, all of which were well-represented at Tuesday’s event.

The ambulance association hosted it in the back parking lot of their station.

Fire apparatus from Shenandoah’s five fire companies along with William Penn from West Mahanoy Township were present, along with police cruisers from Shenandoah and West Mahanoy Township, and numerous Shenandoah ambulances.

Of course, the personnel for the organizations were present too. Shenandoah police officers showed curious kiddos their patrol cars, letting them sit in the front seat and even hit the siren a time or two. Ambulance personnel served up pierogies and hot dogs.

Over at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community, Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac 7 landed. The helicopter is frequently in Shenandoah a few blocks away at the helipad. The flight crew was eager to talk about their service.

Other groups present included the Schuylkill County Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance, Schuylkill County Communications Center, Lehigh Valley Health Network, St. Luke’s, and more.

Smokey the Bear even made an appearance.
