Opelika woman arrested after hit-and-run injures elderly man

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) – Opelika Police have arrested a woman in a hit-and-run that left a 76-year-old man seriously hurt.

It happened Tuesday afternoon around 4:30 on Rocky Brook Road. Police say the man was at the end of his driveway when a gray SUV hit him and drove off. He was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Security video showed a gray Honda Pilot in the area. After the footage was shared online, a tip led officers to a home on North Uniroyal Road. There, they found a 2012 Honda Pilot and questioned the owner, 35-year-old Amber Lynn Phillips.

On Wednesday, police arrested Phillips for Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, a Class C felony.

“Thanks to the community’s quick thinking and willingness to come forward, we were able to identify a possible suspect the same evening,” said Opelika Police Chief Shane Healey.

The case remains under investigation.
