LAFAYETTE, La. (
KLFY) — In Lafayette, plans are in the works to add more parking space to Moncus Park. Moncus Park executive director, JP MacFadyen says additional parking spaces are on the way.
Currently, there are 150 spots available with the on-site parking lot, plus overflow spaces. MacFadyen says the goal is to double what they have.
“In addition to the parking at the Farmers’ Market Pavilion, we’re going to expand the current parking lot to take it down the fence line by Reds,” MacFadyen said.
The park opened in the year 2022. To-date Moncus Park on average sees 15,000 visitors a week.
“We’re tracking last year to this year. We’re a little more than halfway through the year, but our attendance is up over 50 percent from last year,” MacFadyen stated.
The empty space at the front of the park, near the Farmers Market Pavilion, will be turned into parking as well.
“By January, there will be new parking. Both here at the Farmers Market Pavilion and the other project to expand the parking on the west side will probably come online in the spring of next year. I hate to get into construction, you don’t want to put a hard date on it,” MacFadyen explained.
