Jim Ned CISD rings in new policy, leadership & educational spaces for school year

TUSCOLA, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – It’s a new school year at Jim Ned Consolidated School District under a new superintendent, and students will be welcomed on the first day with a new look at their school.

Superintendent Will Brewer is no stranger to the Big Country and said he is ready to be a part of the Indian community.

“I’ve spent most of my career in this area in the Big Country area, and so I’m pretty familiar with that,” Brewer said. “The students that I’ve already met, the students that I have interacted with in the past, are just really tremendous kids, and I just feel blessed to be here, I feel blessed to be part of this community.”

One of the biggest changes to policy coming to the district is a result of a new state law banning cell phone use in the classrooms. Brewer said they decided to allow devices on campus, but they must be turned off and put away.

“We have kids who have after-school activities, and after the instructional day, the rules are a little bit different on that. Just to be able to communicate with their parents,” Brewer said.

The policy does have an exception for students with medical needs and only applies during the instructional hour on campus property.

Throughout the summer, new additions were made across the district, bringing in new classrooms, renovated hallways, and new agriculture and CTE buildings. Brewer said they are all going to be ready for the first day, with touch-up here and there in the following weeks.

“This week is really a hard push on a lot of that stuff and punch lists and all those kinds of things this week, so I think the community will be pleased with the projects. They’re really going to benefit our kids, and they did a great job,” Brewer said.

He went on to say his one ask of parents going into this fresh season is patience.

“The first two weeks, we ask for just a little patience, and it’ll all level out. So typically, what happens is, the younger grades, intermediate, junior high, parents typically bring their kids to school those days, so traffic might be a little bit backed up more than normal,” Brewer explained.

Jim Ned CISD’s school year begins on August 13, 2025.
