PORT BARRE, La. (
KLFY) — A fatal crash that claimed the life of Marissa Richard, 25, of Port Barre occurred on LA.190 near its intersection with Oakview Lane yesterday morning, Louisiana State Police Troopers said.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Richard was allegedly driving a 2018 Dodge Journey eastbound on LA.190 in the right lane. At the same time, a 2019 Freightliner was traveling east in the right lane of LA.190 after allegedly completing a legal U-turn. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge allegedly struck the rear of the Freightliner, officials reported.
According to officials, Richard sustained serious injuries and died at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the Dodge also sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
Although impairment is not suspected, the driver of the Freightliner provided a voluntary breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected, officials said. Routine toxicology samples were collected from Richard for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
