Crow sparked power outage in Manassas impacting schools, traffic lights, airport

MANASSAS, Va. (DC News Now) — Power was quickly restored in Manassas late Wednesday morning after a main power unit went down at the Manassas Regional Airport.

According to the City of Manassas, the power went out after a crow got into the unit, causing a power short. The bird’s adventure caused a brief outage at the Manassas Regional Airport and on the west side of the city.

During the outage, traffic lights throughout Manassas began malfunctioning. According to the Manassas City Public Schools, three elementary schools, including Jennie Dean, Haydo and Round, also lost services.

The city announced on X that crews responded to the substation and the power was restored.
