Wx Worries: Plenty of heat and action in the tropics

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) -We will continue to see few worries in the ArkLaTex through most of next week as the heat will remain our main worry.  While the tropics are heating up, there are now short-term worries here.  That could change in a few weeks!

Tropical worries: Tropical Storm Dexter will continue to race northeast through the northern Atlantic and not pose a threat to the US mainland. The National Hurricane Center indicates that there are two other areas where tropical development will be possible during the next week. These will also not threaten the Gulf.  The disturbance now over the Eastern Atlantic could threaten the Southeast Coast of the US.  One long-range model shows another disturbance developing behind this system later in the month.  This system, if it develops, could threaten the Gulf in a few weeks.

Heat worries:  Our biggest concern here at home in the next ten days will be the heat and humidity.  It still appears that temperatures will climb back into the upper 90s later this week, with the heat index likely near 105.  We might take the edge off of this heat by the beginning of next week. 

Severe weather worries:  Severe weather will likely not be an issue for the ArkLaTex.  It appears that much of the area could stay dry from now through most of next week. Much of the area could stay dry.

Weather Worry Index for the next 10 days:  2 out of 10: Today’s WWI for the next ten days will remain at 2 out of 10.  Be sure to respect the August heat.  It’s only going to get worse in the coming days.
