Suspect who crashed car, broke into home in southeast Minnesota taken into custody

Search for suspect in southeast MN

A suspect accused of fleeing the scene of a crash and breaking into a home in southeast Minnesota has been taken into custody.

On Aug. 5 at about 7 a.m., deputies with the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 105th Avenue Northeast and 65th Street Northeast near Elgin for a suspicious vehicle.

A caller said they saw someone slumped over the steering wheel of their car on the side of the road. When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect drove away.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was not being pursued, but hit another vehicle near the 31000 block of County Road 25.

A Minnesota State Patrol crash report stated that the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Drew Douglas Wiskow Davis, was driving a Dodge Ram when it collided with a Dodge Grand Caravan just after 7:30 a.m.

Davis reportedly left the scene while the driver of the Caravan was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials determined that the car driven by the suspect had been reported stolen from another county.

A short time later, the owner of a home near the crash scene called 911 and said the suspect broke into their home before running away into a nearby building and then a cornfield.

Then just after 9 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.

Both the Olmsted and Wabasha County sheriff’s offices are investigating the incident.
