(KTAB/KRBC) – School supplies and most clothing will be tax-free in Texas this weekend as part of the state’s annual sales tax holiday at the start of each school year.

This year’s sales tax holiday runs from August 8-10, 2025, and allows anyone to purchase school supplies and qualifying clothing items without having to pay tax. However, items must be under $100 each to receive the exemption.

The following lists provided by the Texas Comptroller’s Office show exactly which items will be tax-free:

Anyone with questions about how the holiday works can visit the Texas Comptroller’s website, where there is more specific information on what items do or don’t qualify, special purchasing scenarios, and what sellers need to do to honor the holiday.

Texas also has two additional annual sales tax holidays, one for emergency supplies each April, and one for energy efficient appliances and other water conserving items each May.
