Richmond man arrested after multi-week homicide investigation

RICHMOND, Ind. — A Richmond man has been arrested after a multi-week homicide investigation.

According to a news release from the Blackford County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s prosecutor’s office, Deontae Gabbard was arrested on the following preliminary charges:

• Murder
• Unlawful possession of a firearm, a Level 4 felony
• Intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony
• Two counts of pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony
• Wayne County probation warrant

The release said that Gabbard was taken into custody on Tuesday at an apartment complex in Richmond by the Richmond Police Department’s SWAT team. This arrest came after a reported homicide investigation that took more than five weeks.

Officials said that Gabbard is being housed at the Wayne County Jail and is expected to be transported to the Blackford County Security Center before his initial hearing is scheduled in Blackford Circuit Court.

The release said that the investigation into this particular homicide resulted in 12 arrests and nine firearms being recovered.
