PGE customers could face another rate hike in 2026

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Portland General Electric customers could see another rate hike soon.

Documents filed with the Oregon Public Utility Commission show that this time, the company is seeking an increase of 2.2% overall.

Residential customers using an average of 784 kilowatt hours could see rate hikes up to 2.8%, amounting to a roughly $4.49 per-month increase according to a spokesperson for PGE. If approved, the increases would take effect April 1, 2026.

PGE customers already saw their bills increase earlier this year, after a 5.5% rate hike took effect in January.

The latest filing came just two weeks after the company announced it was cutting jobs to prevent further rate hikes.

PGE filed a Distribution System Plan with the state’s public utility in December. A company spokesperson characterized it as their plan for a modern, cost-effective grid. He said the July 25 rate filing is an opportunity for the public utility commission and the Citizen’s Utility Board to discuss ways to fund improvements to the grid.
