One dead, one injured in Franklin County crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One person died and another was injured during a two-vehicle crash in Franklin County.

The crash occurred on Highway 570 around 9:00 p.m. on August 2.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on the highway when it collided with a 1995 GMC Sierra that was also traveling east.

The driver of the GMC, 75-year-old Paul Hughes, of Smithdale, received life-threatening injuries from the crash. He was pronounced deceased on August 3 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson.

Troopers said the driver of the Chevrolet, 22-year-old Corey Pendleton, of Smithdale, received injuries from the crash and was transported by private vehicle to Southwest Mississippi Medical Center in McComb.

The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
