Monday: Temperatures slowly begin rising after coolest weather spell in two months

NOTE: This article is now an almanac of Monday’s weather. We have published a new forecast story for Tuesday.

Monday temperatures creeped a bit higher, reaching the lower 80s at both major airports following a cooler but comfortable weekend. In fact, Monday made it six consecutive days with sub-normal temperatures, the coolest spell of weather here since early June, two months ago!

August 2025 has gotten off to a sunny start, the first four days have averaged 89% of possible sunshine, well above the 64% that is typical for the month.

Comfortable temperatures and continued relatively low humidity by early August standards. It has certainly been much warmer and more humid at this time of year.

Chicago’s 80-degree tally

Following a 4-day hiatus, we began a new 80-degree streak on Monday afternoon. To date, Midway has logged 4 more days of 80+ than O’Hare International Airport.

For the first time this year, Ragweed pollen was measured by the folks at Loyola Medicine. For folks that have a strong sensitivity to ragweed pollen you may have the following symptoms.

  • Nasal congestion and runny nose: Stuffy or runny nose, often with thick, clear mucus.
  • Sneezing: Frequent, uncontrollable sneezing.
  • Itchy eyes: Watery, red, or itchy eyes.
  • Sore throat: Irritation and scratchiness in the throat.
  • Coughing: Persistent coughing, especially when exposed to ragweed pollen.
  • Wheezing: In some cases, wheezing may occur due to airway inflammation.
  • Headaches: Headaches, particularly due to sinus congestion
