Jail employee accused of contraband cellphone abuse
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) — St. Landry Parish Jail employee accused of contraband cellphone use, deputies said.
Earlier today, Toi Antoinette Lazard, 32, of Opelousas was arrested and charged with malfeasance in office and contraband taken to and from penal institutions, deputies said.
Deputies were notified by the St. Landry Parish District Attorney’s Office of inappropriate conduct by a parish employee, Lazard.

According to deputies, Lazard was assigned to the Parish Jail where she supervises the kitchen and the trustees assigned to the kitchen.

The investigation revealed that Lazard was allegedly bringing her cellphone into the jail and allowing inmates to use the phone for calls, texts messaging and face time conversations. Some of the alleged conversations involved an inmate, on trial for a homicide, attempting to convince a witness to change their testimony, deputies said.
Information on Lazard’s bond has not been released.
