According to authorities, the child was struck by a car on Prairie Avenue near Summit Avenue at 4:51 p.m.
He was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to UW-Madison, where he died from his injuries.
Police said the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is being conducted in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Patrol.
“Please join us with compassionate thoughts for all parties involved. The loss of any child in our community is a tragedy,” police said in a statement.
No charges have been announced.
