There are already multiple versions of the Harry Potter books available on Audible. There’s the original audiobooks narrated by Jim Dale (which actually earned him a Grammy) as well as another set narrated by Stephen Fry. Now Audible is at it again with a third iteration of the audio series, this time with a full voice cast for each character.
The first round of cast announcements includes Hugh Laurie as Dumbleore, who is now set to play a new version of the Hogwarts Headmaster before John Lithgow stars in the upcoming TV series. The first audiobook in the new series is set to arrive on November 4, 2025 and you can already preorder it from Amazon or Audible directly. Release dates for the other six books have not yet been revealed.
Pottermore Publishing put out a press release earlier today announcing the first round of cast members for the upcoming Audible collaboration. More cast announcements are on their way, but here’s the full list of names so far:
As someone very familiar with the Harry Potter books and Audible, the biggest standout on this list is that there will be two sets of actors voicing Harry, Ron, and Hermione. One of the most common issues I’ve had with listening to audiobooks is a sudden narrator change in the middle of a series. If the main character’s voices suddenly change between books, it could be a bit disconcerting for the listener. With a consistent surrounding cast and narrator, however, it’s possible it will be a non-issue.
If you’re interested enough in this upcoming audiobook, you can preorder The Sorcerer’s Stone (Full-Cast Edition) on Amazon or free with a trial of an Audible subscription. If you don’t plan on continuing your membership all the way through November, however, I would recommend waiting until closer to release to check out the audiobook via that method. Otherwise you can preorder it for $29.99 ahead of its release as a gift for the Potter fan in your life.
