BARRINGTON HILLS, Ill. — An 18-year-old motorcyclist is critically injured after a crash involving a police vehicle in northwest suburban Barrington Hills.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Old Bartlett Road and Bartlett Road.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle was travelling northbound on Bartlett Road, failed to negotiate the curve and struck a utility pole. The motorcyclist then collided with a marked police vehicle that was stopped at the stop sign.

The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and later released.

Police believe speed likely was a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Major Crash Assistance Team.
