MURRAY, Utah (ABC4) — Police have identified the victim in the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Thursday in Murray, where surveillance footage captured the moments two vehicles struck the victim and left the scene.
The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Kimberley Jean Jespersen. According to her daughter Nastasha Dickinson, Jespersen was a mother of four and a grandmother of 10.
“She was outgoing. She would do whatever it took. She would take her shirt off her anybody,” Dickinson told ABC4 News Monday in an emotional interview. “Her grandbabies were her everything. She loved her grandbabies,” Dickinson said.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on July 31, Jesperson was crossing 4500 South from the southeast corner of State Street, when a passenger car turning east from State Street struck her in the crosswalk. Police described this as a minor collision.
The car stopped, and Jesperson was seen on video standing at the driver’s side window of that first car in the eastbound lanes. The light changed, and a truck approached the intersection, swerved to avoid hitting the stopped passenger car, and hit Jesperson.
After the second collision, both vehicles continued east on 4500 South and left the area.
“Maybe things would have been different if [the driver] stopped … all I know is that my mom is gone,” Dickinson said, who was celebrating her birthday Thursday, when she learned her mom was struck by a vehicle and rushed to the hospital.
The second vehicle caused critical injuries, and Jesperson was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died from those injuries.
Police previously released footage of the incident from a private company called CollisionCam, which showed both vehicles involved in the hit and run.
The first vehicle is a dark colored hatchback passenger car, and the second vehicle is a dark colored truck. Police also stated that the truck involved will most likely have damage to the front or passenger side of the vehicle.
Police are continuing to ask the public for assistance in finding the drivers involved in this incident. If you have any information, please contact Murray Police at 801-840-4000 and reference case number MR2025-23474.
Jesperson’s family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral and memorial costs, which you can find here.
