Mark Alan McGehee, 53, was booked into the Tooele County Jail on two counts of first-degree felony attempted murder, one count of second-degree felony prohibited dangerous weapon conduct, four counts of third-degree felony aggravated assault, and two counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm. Court records show he also faces misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and reckless driving.
According to court documents, McGehee and the victims allegedly got into a verbal altercation. During the altercation, McGehee reportedly struck the victims’ car twice, causing minor damage and prompting the victims to flee the area.
McGehee allegedly chased the victims onto SR-138, driving into oncoming traffic while attempting to get the victim to stop and pull over.
“During one of these attempts, [McGehee] produced a handgun and fired a single round at the driver of the victims’ vehicle,” police reported in court documents. Oncoming traffic then reportedly forced McGehee to fall back behind the victims, where he allegedly fired another seven to eight rounds.
The chase reportedly continued until the victims left SR-138 and fled west on I-80.
McGehee has been ordered to be held without bail, pending a pretrial hearing, after police said he “showed no concern for the victims’ or general public’s safety.” Several of his charges, including the attempted murder charges, face road rage enhancements.
