The council voted to adopt a resolution that could impeach the mayor in a public meeting on Monday night. 14 charges were presented, including misuse of the city police department, violating proper procedure in dismissing members of the London Housing Authority, and harassing city employees.
Although there was some confusion, the resolution ultimately passed five to one, moving the process to the next phase, a public hearing.
Councilman Anthony Ortega called for the mayor’s immediate resignation on Tuesday afternoon.
I have a sworn duty to protect the citizens of our community, to be a responsible steward of their tax dollars and to ensure that the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky are upheld. This is no longer just a matter of disagreement with the City Council. The Mayor has shown an inability to work with virtually any entity that does not allow him complete control — including the County government, the Housing Authority, the Ethics Board, and more. Since taking office just two years ago, he is now on the verge of appointing his third City Clerk and fourth City Police Chief. This level of turnover speaks volumes about the instability and dysfunction that has plagued his administration. At our meeting last night, the Mayor intentionally refused to maintain order, enabling chaos as a tactic to derail the process aimed at holding him accountable for violations of the law. It has now been almost eight months since the killing of Doug Harless and yet we still have no answers — no transparency, no accountability from the Mayor and no leadership to address what happened or who is responsible. The Mayor’s disregard for the law is alarming. He behaves as though the Kentucky Revised Statutes are merely suggestions and not the law of the land. Because of the clear and repeated violations outlined last night, the ongoing turmoil and the constant negative attention brought upon our city by his actions, I am officially calling for the resignation of the Mayor, effective immediately.
Enough is enough. London deserves better.

However, the mayor told FOX 56 that there is no truth to the council’s allegations.
“There’s none of them that are factual. There’s none of them. There’s no facts to back up anything that they’re stating. So, we’re going to let the process play out. Let the attorneys do what they do best, and just see where that goes,” Weddle said.
An attorney for the complainants told FOX 56 that a hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 20, where a vote to impeach will occur.
It would take a unanimous vote to remove Weddle from office.
His mayoral term is up in 2026.
