Chicago police say the shooting unfolded just after 1:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Dante Avenue in Grand Crossing.
According to police, the victim, a 16-year-old girl, was in the yard of a residence in the area when an unknown offender traveling in a gray SUV opened fire.
Following the shooting, the individual responsible fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Officers said the teen girl was struck in both legs and was later taken to the hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the gunfire and officers say an investigation is now underway.
