Collins has spent more than 30 years in law enforcement with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He started as an entry-level deputy sheriff and worked his way to Chief Deputy, the second-highest position in the Sheriff’s Office.
Collins confirmed to Queen City News he retired from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office in January 2024, just over seven years after taking the promotion to Chief Deputy. He started his career there in January 1994.
Throughout his career, Collins has pushed for high professional standards, accountability, and provided exceptional service to Mecklenburg County citizens.
There isn’t a candidate with a more vested interest in seeing the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office succeed and reach its potential than me; I grew up in the organization and have worked, supervised, and managed in every major division of the Sheriff’s Office. I’m running for sheriff because I am extremely enthusiastic about serving others and still believe wholeheartedly in the nobility of public service and I’m prepared to lead the Sheriff’s Office on day one. I am looking forward to running for Mecklenburg County Sheriff and earning the support and, more importantly, the votes of Mecklenburg County residents.
