Perry Methodist United Church’s blessing box was started in 2019, a year after Perry’s only grocery store closed. The box was made to provide food and hygiene items to those in need.
Outreach Coordinator Paula Hladky said people were saddened by the blessing box ‘s vandalism. Someone allegedly shattered the box’s glass and broke it the week prior.
“We do have the new doors on now, and everything’s good, but we had a lot of people who were so disappointed in the last week,” Hladky said.
People can make donations of non-perishable items to the blessing box for now due to the heat. The church asks that you take what you need and leave some for the next person.
