“I come from Karr, so we didn’t have the school that they have now, but just coming in, I’m looking at everything and I’m like, ‘We need to update some of these things. I was like, ‘Hey, we need to get some new uniforms. We need some new helmets. We need this and that, and they were like, Hey, slow down, you just got the job. But I always wanted to give those kids the gameday experience that everybody else gets,” said Bonnabel head coach Andre Anthony.
Monday, the New Orleans Saints and American Safety helped that cause by surprising Anthony and the Bonnabel football program with 65 new Riddell SpeedFlex helmets.
Alontae Taylor and Isaac Yiadom presented the new gear to the team.
“It’s amazing to see them come and do this for the kids and just be involved in the community. Not just Bonnabel, but everywhere across Louisiana. Especially with Louisiana not being a big, big state. But for them to come out here and show support to all of these kids, man, is amazing. It’s amazing,” said Anthony.
The gift was worth around $25,000, but the impact is priceless.
“This just takes their level of game to the next level, because the main thing is they know people are behind them. They know people are behind them. They know people want to support them. They know people want to come out and see them ball and just have fun and enjoy football, added Anthony.”
Bonnabel opens the season on Thursday, September 4th, against Sophie B. Wright.
