Nevermore! Help BPCC bring Edgar Allen Poe to life onstage

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of an Edgar Allen Poe production, Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) is gently rapping on your chamber door.

The BPCC Theatre Program and Cavalier Players are hosting an Audition Prep Workshop on Wednesday, August 6, at 6 p.m. and open auditions for their fall production, An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe, on Monday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m. The workshop and auditions will take place at the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre on the BPCC campus.

BPCC Theatre alum Lari Leber will lead the prep workshop. It will help actors feel prepared by offering tips for selecting a monologue, calming nerves, and presenting themselves professionally at auditions. Participants should bring a 45-second dramatic monologue and be ready to ask questions, take notes, and stay hydrated.

The auditions are open to community members 17 and older. There are roles for four women, eight men, and two actors of any gender. Auditioners should be prepared to read from the script, move around the stage, and may be asked to improvise. Prepared monologues are welcome, but are only required for returning BPCC theatre students. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete an audition form and, if possible, bring a headshot and resume.

An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe is adapted by Robert Mason and directed by Dr. Ray Scott Crawford. It presents six adaptations of Poe stories, including The Cask of Amontillado, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher, and more. Performances are scheduled for October 3, 4, 10, and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and October 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Contact BPCC Theatre at (318) 678-6021 or dcole@bpcc.edu
