
The officer was shot during a dangerous chase on May 31, 2025. It started in the early morning hours when authorities spotted a suspicious vehicle on Old Charlotte Highway and tried to pull it over. The driver, identified as Joshua Sikes, 18, sped off, leading police on a high-speed pursuit.
After officers used stop sticks to disable the vehicle, Sikes jumped out and opened fire, shooting more than a dozen rounds at police before running into nearby woods. A manhunt followed, ending when Sikes shot at officers again. Law enforcement returned fire, killing him.
Monday morning, a crowd gathered outside the Monroe Police Department to celebrate the injured officer’s return. Queen City News anchor and reporter Savannah Rudicel was live at the station, sharing the emotional moment as it unfolded.
