After several days of highs the 70s and low 80s and lows down in the 50s, the National Weather Service predicts above average temperatures for the rest of August in West Virginia. There is a more than 50% chance of above-average temperatures in West Virginia through the rest of the month.
The highest chance of above-normal temperatures is in northern West Virginia from Aug. 10-14, where the NWS Climate Prediction Center expects an up-to-80% chance of it being hotter than usual.
The Climate Prediction Center outlook also says that the chance of precipitation is leaning above normal for the rest of August as well, staying in line with the seasonal outlook released in May, which predicted hot and wet weather throughout the summer.
The StormTracker 12 Weather team predicts that the heat and humidity will begin slowly returning throughout the week. By the weekend, heat indexes are expected to be back in the 90s in the north central West Virginia lowlands.

If you’re hoping that September and October will bring cooler temperatures, you might be disappointed. The NOAA Seasonal Temperature Outlook for August-October says that there is a 40-60% chance of those months being warmer than normal.
