FOUR CORNERS, La. (KLFY) — After last week’s devastating fire that destroyed the historic St. John Baptist Church in Four Corners, the church gathers funding to raise money for restoration and rebuilding.

In a GoFundMe post, Senior Pastor David Jones expressed how after serving the community for over 164 years the building had to be demolished due to the damage caused by the lightning. Jones added that although the church was insured, the congregation will face financial shortfalls due to rising costs of materials and restoration.

“Our church family remains steadfast in faith, knowing that God is in control and that He makes no mistakes.” Jones said. “With this assurance, we humbly ask not only for your continued prayers but also for your generous support.”

According to firefighters, the fire broke out around 2:26 p.m. on July 30, and by the time firefighters arrived, the church was already 50-70% consumed by flames. Despite the rapid response involving over 50 firefighters and 25 fire trucks from multiple parishes, significant water supply issues hampered efforts to save the structure.

“Upon arrival, we found a church about 50-70% engulfed in flames,” said Fire Chief Clarence Clark. “It’s a devastating loss to our community—something we never thought we’d see.”

As plans are already in motion to rebuild the church on the same property, the congregation remains hopeful and determined to rebuild and asks the community’s help to continue their mission.
