In the poll, which was conducted between July 7 and July 21, Pope Leo XIV was ranked as most favorable, with many more Americans viewing him positively as opposed to negatively. The pontiff scored a 57% favorable rating and an 11% unfavorable rating, resulting in a +46 net-favorable score.
Contrast that to Musk, who scored a 33% favorable rating and a 61% unfavorable rating, resulting in a -28 net-favorable score. The means that according to Americans, the X owner is viewed less favorably than Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a -23 net-favorable score and President Donald Trump, who is tied with Secretary of State Marco Rubio with a -16 net-favorable rating.
On the more popular end of the spectrum, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was right below the Pope with a +18 net-favorable score, followed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders with a +11 net-favorable rating.
New York Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and French President Emmanuel Macron, notably, were each viewed just about equally when it came to positive versus negative, with large percentages having no opinion of either.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom may have some work to do if indeed he does decide to launch his expected bid for the White House. The two-term Democratic governor had a 30% favorable rating and a 41% unfavorable rating, leaving him with a -11 net-favorable rating.
Other prominent figures included in the poll were Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (-5), former President Joe Biden (-11), Vice President JD Vance (-11), and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (-12).
