The shooting happened on West 77th Street near Linwood Avenue at 6:31 am, according to Caddo 911 Emergency Events. Shreveport Police Sergeant Travis, witnesses said, two or more males were shooting at one another.
William Mayfield and another man were both injured as a result of the shooting. Mayfield was wounded in the lower leg, and the other was shot in the abdomen. Investigators determined that Mayfield arrived at the victim’s and opened fire. The victim returned fire in self-defense, injuring both men.
Mayfield was arrested on one count of attempted second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. A previous conviction related to a 2022 arrest for domestic abuse by strangulation barred Mayfield from possessing a firearm.
