JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, said the city should break the deadlock on repairing the PJ Williams bridge.

Stokes and Pastor PJ Williams said it’s important to reconstruct the bridge, which is located outside Cornerstone Baptist Church.

The councilman said the bridge closure keeps students from getting to school and community members from getting to their churches.

“People can’t get to it, and I think there’s no caring. There’s no heart for caring for this community, for what it has done and what it stands for,” said Stokes.

Stokes and Williams want the city to approve a bid for a contractor who can repair the bridge. They plan to host a community meeting on the bridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
