‘It’s been a great run’: You only have days left to eat at Mattie’s Diner in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A piece of Charlotte history is getting ready to serve its last plate. Mattie’s Diner has announced it will officially close on Sunday, August 10.

In a message shared on social media, the team said: “Mattie’s

Diner on the Plaza is for sale. Our last day is August 10. Opportunity for a great lease. Turnkey. We have decided to sell to focus on growing our other concept. It’s been a great run, and we are looking for someone who wants to carry on the tradition of Mattie’s, or you can create your own concept in this awesome 1948 original New Jersey diner. DM me for details and will get back to you. Thanks for the love over the years. It’s been a great ride. We will never forget the memories and the wonderful people and connections we have made. Thank you all for your support.”

According to their website, originally built in 1948 in New Jersey, the classic railcar-style eatery traveled through several states before finding its permanent home in Charlotte.

Discovered sitting abandoned in a car lot in 2005, the diner was reportedly saved and restored by Mattie and his team.

After several renovations, it opened its doors in 2010. Though it closed in 2015, the diner made a return in 2022 in the Plaza Shamrock neighborhood with more seating and a refreshed interior.

Known for its retro vibe, comfort food, and strong following, Mattie’s has been a favorite for locals and visitors. Folks have just a few more days to enjoy this Charlotte staple!
