Driver killed attempting speed record on Bonneville Salt Flats

TOOELE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — One person was killed after attempting a speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats on Sunday afternoon.

The Southern California Timing Association says in a press release that 60-year-old driver Chris Raschke was attempting a speed record around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. During the attempt, Raschke lost control of his vehicle at the two and half mile mark.

Medical professionals treated Raschke on scene but he later died from injuries. The SCTA says the accident is under investigation.
