WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – Indiana State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash resulting in Boonville Mayor Charles Wyatt, 71, being summoned to court for leaving the scene of a crash.

According to ISP, the incident occurred on May 14, just before 10:45 p.m. at the Boonville VFW. During the investigation, authorities say they learned Mayor Wyatt was driving his city owned truck when he collided with another vehicle. Wyatt allegedly left the scene without contacting the other driver or police.

A release from ISP says the other driver was still inside the vehicle and was able to obtain a license plate number and provide police with a vehicle description, connecting the incident to Wyatt. The Warrick County Prosecutor’s Office turned the case over to a special prosecutor in Knox County.

A criminal charge of leaving the scene of a crash was filed against Mayor Wyatt, and a summons to appear in court will be issued, according to officials. A court date has not been issued at this time.

Eyewitness News has reached out to the mayor’s office for comment, and are waiting to hear back.

This is a developing story.
